SUMMARY Professor Juan Rogers presents case studies from the Latin American and Caribbean region. Universities in most developing nations, including Latin America, do not have close links with industry. Through these cases, Professor Rogers challenges widely accepted diagnoses about universities’ inefficient systems, and discussed specific administrative and political challenges to developing more productive linkages between universities and industries in developing economies. Lastly, he lists specific reforms to university governance needed to facilitate these linkages and overcome obstacles created by political interests. |
