The week's beginning saw a very successful plenary meeting of the BNCT - the meanwhile fourth such. Over 70 delegates from 27 delegations participated in 3 days of engaging discussions.
As the current biennium is closing out a plethora of results were presented, e.g. workshop reports, policy papers and such. Especially the workshops in Brussels (microbiome), Ottawa (gene editing) and Lausanne (Alzheimer's diesease) were subject of spiritied debates, as well as the work done on statistics and impact, bioproduction and the new production revolution.
Heading towads the new biennium the BNCT not only decided on governance, work plans and timelines for 2017/18 but also sought in its work to put the focus increasingly on overarching themes like convergence or open and responsible innovation to draw together the currently four workstreams into a comprehensive package.
Aside from the work on topical content accession examinations with delegations from Costa Rica and Lithuania were conducted as part of the respective states' accession processes.
And last but not least: The bureau for 2017 was elected - no surprises here: It consists of the same delegates as 2016.
